I've been reading a book "Rude Awakening" and it started me thinking; do you think most Churches in America are "asleep at the wheel"? Since we still have Pornography and Homosexuality in America. . .

Hi Nellerebel,

Interesting topic.

Im not familiar with the book is it directed at the Church only.

Just wondering because the world is definitely asleep. How the world can be so accepting of the suicide bombing that is taking place is beyond me. The fact that the UN is actually supporting it really makes me wonder.

Awake - Asleep are interesting topics, I covered them in Basic Christian: Theology.

www.BasicChristian.org/theology.html#Awake

I actually think that the Church is getting in better shape now than it has been for a while, especially while Bill Clinton was President because it became very obvious to many Christians that the Government is Not the answer to lifes problems and that Jesus is.

This really is a time of distinction as the darkness in the world is getting much darker but the Church is getting much brighter and the distinction between what the world has to offer and what God has to offer is getting more pronounced.

At times I do think that the Church is asleep, myself included. Especially when I look the topics of Abortion and the Mormon religion. It really makes me wonder when Christians are silent about Abortion and when Christians dont know enough about Christianity to know that Mormonism is a cult.

Christianity is to be Salt and Light and with all the worlds problems we could be better at it, but it is given to mankind to choose what he wants to do and right now, the end times, is basically Mans Hour so mankind is doing what mankind wants to do and that is Sin against God.

From what I can gather about "End Times" in the Bible, God removes His restraining presence from the earth. Meaning that it is the Holy Spirit that Convicts people of Sin and not the Church and since the Holy Spirit is pulling back in Conviction, but not in salvation, than of course there is going to be more Sin.

To conclude it is the Churches Job-Pleasure to present Jesus/Hope to mankind but Im not really sure of the role of the Church in searching out Sin in one another as that must be done carefully, loving and in the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

God Bless you,
David

We in America have been asleep since 1963! How could we allow Prayer to be removed from Schools?! Abortion is as old as mankind; it's been fought a won and fouhgt and won several times over! But now come most Christians aren't ashamed over the morals in America?!
Did you know that Liquor sales and Bible sales are both up. . . I wonder why? What happened to all those ppl who have heard the Gospel during Revivals; where are they and what are they doing now?

Are we really ready for the Return. . . . .

Hi ,

Good point!

No we are not ready for the return of Jesus and 1st John admonishes us to be.

1John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.

I do think that the Church needs to Get Busy and start taking care of Church business and to stop being so immersed in the world, the cares, concerns and admiration of the world. The world is never going to understand us so we need to focus on Jesus and move ahead in a relationship with Jesus.

I think that is why so many people get bogged down in Christianity is because the Church is really not teaching how to move ahead with Jesus.

I hope that Basic Christian can improve on helping people understand Christianity.

This forum really does or should take up where Billy Graham and the other Evangelists leave off. It is the Evangelists job to point people to Jesus but it is the Churches job to mature and grow people in Jesus and the Churches just are not doing that.

I have big hopes for "Jesus Walk 2003" which starts in a couple more days. It is a ten day journey with Jesus and I think goes a long way to getting people to focus in on Jesus, who, He is and what He has accomplished and in discovering how He is working in our lives.

I think that Jesus Walk can help people break out of the 1 hour Sunday only Christian mode and become 27 hour 7 day a week Christians that are Living & Loving the Christian Walk.

God Bless you,
David

I may have re-stated this but the book is talking to the Church only, because it is our job to live Godly in this world and bring others to Chirst Matt. 28:19-20.

The responsability of the church is to teach the word of God,what people do after that is their responsability. The church is "asleep" in the sense that many churches compromise the word in order to increase membership. They stay away from socialy sensative topics like pornography and homosexuality both of which have been around for centuries.I beleive those rushing to blame the church for society's ills are just desperate for answers and cannnot accept what the bible says on the subject and that is that things are going to get worse and worse as we near the end, so they blame an easy target, the church. They forget that we live in a nation that provides the freedom for people to do the wrong thing as well as the right thing. The churches that teach the uncompromised word are not at fault for the sorry state we find ourselves in,the one's who compromise share the blame with satan and the people and will share their fate as well.
